The Future World Champion
I’m Ezra "The Cannon" Taylor, and I’m on a mission to become the light-heavyweight world champion. My journey into boxing began at the age of 15, when I took up the sport for fun, without much understanding of the technicalities of the sweet science. I stuck with it, attending a fitness class every Saturday until I was promoted to the elite group, training alongside seasoned fighters.
It didn’t take long for me to realise I was out of my depth — sparring with more experienced boxers and struggling to keep up with the rigorous training. At 16, feeling overwhelmed, I walked away from boxing.
But something inside me craved the discipline and challenge, so I turned my energy toward the gym, focusing on weightlifting. This not only helped me grow physically, but it also built my confidence. By the time I was 18, I knew I had unfinished business in the ring. I returned to the first club where it all began — Bilborough Boxing Club, led by Coach Ray Ricketts — and from that moment, everything changed.
With every session, my passion deepened, but it wasn’t just about being a good boxer. I set my sights on becoming the best in the world. I balanced sales jobs to support my training and even saved enough to quit my job and train full-time for two months in preparation for the championships, although I fell short due to lack of experience. At 24, with 5 championship belts and a 15-3 record, I ended my amateur career to go professional.
Some thought I was moving too fast when I turned professional, but I trusted my vision and embraced the challenge. Now, I’m undefeated with 9 wins, 6 by knockout. I’m proud to hold the title of Light Heavyweight Commonwealth Silver Champion and WBC International Champion, signed by Frank Warren (Queensbury Promotions), and fighting live on TNT Sports (BT Sports).
